Trading Places (1983) Filming Locations: Then And Now
Directed By: John Landis
Trading Places is almost an iconic movie for Philadelphia as is Rocky (1976). According to the New York Times it is one of the best movie ever about Wall Street. According to the average Philadelphian, it is certainly one of the best movies ever filmed here. It is a personal favorite of the Glass Dude and his co-workers and to this day still gets a lot of play on the dusty, old VCR at the glass company in Philadelphia we work at.
The timelessness of the film is still underscored by the stark disparity between the rich and powerful in today's Philadelphia and the poor and underprivileged (No political commentary intended, lol).
It is, however, fun to see how similar or dissimilar 1983 Philadelphia is to today's Philadelphia. With that said here are screenshots from the actual movie posted next to the same locations today...
Useless Trivia: The music that accompanies the opening montage of classic Philadelphia screenshots is Mozart from the marriage of Figaro; The Westin Hotel in center city Philadelphia has a restaurant named Winthorpe & Valentine after the main characters in the movie; This was only Eddie Murphy's 2nd film (48 Hrs. being the first);
